News from John "TURKEY" Walker

*UPDATED*
A big thank you to everyone involved with the reunion weekend. It looks like we have raised just over £1000 after taking off all the costs which were- shirts - £800, food - £360, Disco - £100, ice rink £50. We've sent a cheque for £575 to the Healthy Minds Club charity and will be forwarding the rest to Aviemore Primary School in due course (school holidays).  Once again well done everyone.  Finally I would like to say on behalf of myself and Anna a big thank you to all the lads for the gifts received on Saturday evening

A message from Julie and David (Auld Aviemore)

Firstly, we’d like to say what a absolutely brilliant time we had over the weekend.  I’d seen a couple of ice hockey matches on the old Aviemore rink in the 70’s, but David had never been to one and he thought it was brilliant.  We both really enjoyed it and the atmosphere was great.  It was good to see everyone having such a good time.

Thank you all for making us both feel so welcome.  We didn’t know anyone when we arrived, but you all made us feel very at home and all your comments about our website makes it all worthwhile.  We’re just glad that you all enjoy it.  Sadly, we can never bring back the old Aviemore Centre, but that doesn’t mean we have to forget how good it was.

We’d like to thank both teams for allowing us to photograph and film you all.  We’ve got some really good photos and some not bad DVD footage, considering we’re no David Bailey’s!!!!!
We would like to say a massive thank you to whoever organized the clock  for us with the plaque on it.  We can’t get to the bottom of who organized it, try as we might, so thank you to everyone involved who took the time and trouble to do that for us.  It was an extremely lovely gesture and completely unexpected.  We were quite taken aback.  It was very kind of you all, so a big thank you to everyone involved in arranging it.

We would like thank Gordon  for the Ice Hockey stick that he gave us and it was his idea to bring it to the evening do and get everyone to sign it for us.  It’s a “one off” and we will always treasure it.  Thanks guys.
We’d like to thank all the hotel staff at the Cairngorm Hotel, Aviemore for being so friendly and welcoming.  The rooms are lovely and the housekeeping ladies do a sterling job of keeping them clean for us. The food’s great and nothing seems to be too much trouble.  It’s nice to get some customer service for a change.  Quite a rare thing in this day and age (Christ, I sound like me mother there - I must be getting old!!).  Keep up the good work.  Will definitely stay with you again when we’re next up.  Lovely to meet Clare, the assistant manageress as she has already contributed to our website.  Had a couple of photos done together.

I would like to say a special thank you to John  who was bidding against me for the Aviemore Blues shirt in the evening.
We got up to £70 and he offered to go halves with me and let me keep the shirt.  I know it was all for charity, but it was still an extremely generous gesture on his part, so thanks again John. It was very much appreciated.  It’s hanging on my bedroom wall.
It was very nice meet Jack Dryborough.  I’ve spoken to him a couple of times on the phone as he was going to put some info together for our website about his days at the Aviemore Ice Rink, but he’s a busy man and hasn’t got around to it as yet.  I’m sure he’s got a good few stories to tell.   It was lovely to meet him in person.

Randy McClinchey from Canada asked us if he could have a copy of the video of the game that we did to show his son.
This is Randy with the hockey stick that was signed for us by all the players from both teams.

Talking of  DVD’s, David managed to get just over 50 minutes of the game on the video camera.  Put it this way, Stephen Spielberg's got nothing to worry about, but for a couple of amateurs, it’s nae bad!!  There’s also about 10 minutes of the evening do on there, mainly the raffle bit.  We’ve edited it down so that it’s all ok and if anyone would like a copy of it, please let us know.  Just send us your name and address and we’ll send one in the post to you FREE OF CHARGE.  As it's free, please understand we have to limit it to ONE COPY PER PERSON, but once you've got it you can copy it if you wish.

Every photograph on the website, except the 8 team ones previously mentioned as being available from Anna Walker, can be downloaded and printed by yourselves.  If you have any problems doing this, or you live in the middle of nowhere and can’t get them printed, please let us know and we’ll see what we can do for you.  If need be, we can put your chosen photos onto a disc (they’re all numbered) and send them to you that way.

On a final note, we’d like to ask a favour.  When you all look at the photos on the website, would you mind emailing us the names of all the people who’s photos are on there, as we have no idea who most of them are (it was a hectic day and we’d never met any of you before) and it would be nice to put names to the faces, and also, people all over the world are looking at the website and I’m sure there will be lots of people out there who will enjoy seeing photos of old friends again who’s names they’ve forgotten and it’ll be nice for us to know everyone’s names as well.

Well, that’s it from us.  We hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did and hopefully there’ll be another get together in the not to distant future.  We’re looking forward to it already!!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE keep sending us your photos, memories and stories of Aviemore how it used to be and highlights of the reunion weekend and any other info that you have from way back when.  You know what the website’s about and we always need more content to keep it going.  Without everyone's memories, the website wouldn’t exist, so please keep it coming.  A very big thank you to everyone who has contributed so far.  The website wouldn’t be what it is today without you.

Our very best wishes to you all and thanks again for a great time.

Julie and David
